Is the Honda Insight a Good Car for Massachusetts Area Drivers?

The all-new compact sedan is everything Bay State commuters, road-trippers, and extended vacationers could hope to find in a hybrid build to go the distance: a confident, energetic drive that's great with fuel, and creature comforts, amenities, and advanced tech galore. Take a virtual tour, and you'll see why.

For one, its interior is superb for long trips out of the Boston area. Seating with that inviting feel you love comes optionally heated, in leather trim, and power-adjustable, depending on which model you choose. Bring dual-zone automatic climate control along for the ride, and setting the cabin the way you like it is a breeze.

The center of your excursion, however, is the 5-inch infotainment system in the Insight base trim, which becomes an 8-inch touchscreen in those higher, each incorporating Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. That means that, along with your favorite entertainment, your smartphone can tag along -- easily connectable and manageable in-dash. Further, Pandora, SiriusXM, and HD Radio climb in at the midrange for the long haul, offering expanded listening options. You can make them the outing's soundtrack with an available 450-watt, ten-speaker premium audio system. Plus, with optional mobile hotspot capability for a Web connection and as well as available voice-capable Honda navigation, getting between venues like Burlington and Woburn is a matter of course.

Turn the key on the hybrid engine system, and the feel of the car's net 151 horsepower offers the promise of an enjoyable journey. It's comprised of a 1.5-liter, four-cylinder Atkinson-cycle gas engine, an electric motor, and a high-capacity lithium-ion battery, and together with ECON, sport, and EV modes, you can tailor that road feel to make the most of your miles, for performance, or for a short stint of all-electric driving. Shifting gears goes smoothly and by the numbers, thanks to a continuously variable transmission with electronic control via shift-by-wire -- in short, with a simple button's touch. You can also recharge the integrated hybrid battery while driving using regenerative braking, which you can optimize using deceleration selectors.

Most of all, the car's the safer choice, with a durable Advanced Compatibility Engineering&#trade; (ACE&#trade;) body structure and a host of driver-assistance technologies, part of the standard Honda Sensing® suite. It can inform you of impending forward collisions, help prevent lane and road departures, mitigate the effects of accidents, and even keep you up-to-date on local traffic rules around spots like Medford, all while helping safely distance you from other traffic.

But these innovations aren't all the new 2019 Honda Insight has in store.
